08/31/2005: "Hurricane"
I have seen images of hurricane destruction before, nothing really different from tornado damage, except on a little wider scale. The difference between this hurricane and the one that hit Homestead, FL is that there is massive flooding. The flooding got worse after the hurricane was gone because of the broken levies in New Orleans. The fact that the whole town is underwater makes it a crazy scene. Since the water keeps rising, who knows when we'll all be able to see some female flesh on Fat Tuesday. It makes me wish I had seen the city before all of this, since it will never be the same.
There is massive looting in New Orleans and I don't blame them one bit. Hell, I'd be looting even if I didn't live down there. Doesn't it make sense that if all of the goods are going to be destroyed by water anyway, we might as well make the most of it and give the stuff to people who need it....everyone in N.O.! What are all the Wal-Marts going to do with their milk that cannot be refrigerated because there's no electricity? Those things need to be stolen and passed out immediately because they aren't going to be sold later on. Hell, nothing is going to be sold in stores for months anyway. I can't stress how much I would love to be down there and help rescue people. With all of the national guard in Iraq, who is left to help? People might say, "Just pack up and go down there, people need your help" but even though it seems necessary and the right thing to do, would an employer really allow you to just leave work for an undisclosed amount of time...hell no. Work must go on, even in the event of disasters, which leads me to wonder, when the end comes, will I be at my desk working, or making the most of the last few hours of people's lives?
